Special Worship Experiences
Sunday, December 16, 10:30 am:
We welcome you to a Service of Nine Lessons and Carols, a weaving together of scripture and song that takes us from the Genesis story of the “fall” in the Garden of Eden through the prophecies of redemption to the fulfillment of that promise. The first Festival of Lessons and Carols in this form took place fifty years ago at King’s College Chapel in Cambridge England on Christmas Eve, 1918, during the darkest days of the first World War. The service has continued every year since that time, and since 1928 has been broadcast by BBC to listeners around the world. Also a beloved Shallowford tradition for many years, the service always begins with the singing of “Once in Royal David’s City” and concludes with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”
Our guest musicians include: Lissie Shannahan and Frances Kohut, flutists; Jennifer Thomas, soprano; Debbie Clark, alto; John Burchette, baritone; and Joanne Inkman, pianist. We are grateful for the gifts of the Joyful Noise, the Shallowford Singers, including our own Sally Ann Morris and Trish Sumners, and for all of the carolers of Shallowford!
Sunday, December 23, 10:30am - Dramatic Reading
We will tell the stories of Mary and her cousin Elizabeth through a simple dramatic reading based on a play devised by our youth in 2015.
Monday, December 24, 7:00pm - Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion. A service for the entire family.
Plan now to join us for these special Advent services!
