A service of Taizé Prayer for World Peace and Reconciliation will be held on Sunday, September 29 at 7:30p.m. The Shallowford sanctuary, illuminated by the soft light of many candles, makes a sacred space for this liturgy from the Community of Taizé, with its sung prayer that reaches into the depths of the soul through its beauty and simplicity. Several guest musicians will join us for this service which also includes scripture readings and a period of silent meditation. Our outdoor Labyrinth will be open for walking prior to the service. A brief introduction to the sung prayers will begin at 7:25p.m.
The Forsyth County CROP Walk will be held Sunday afternoon, October 20, at Corpening Plaza in downtown Winston-Salem. CROP funds hunger, disaster relief, and development programs in Forsyth County and across the world, including hurricane relief. For years, Shallowford has been one of CROP's strongest supporters. Join us this year! The Walk will be a beautiful stroll through Old Salem. You can join as a walker or donate on behalf of a walker by going to www.cropwalkforsyth.org and clicking at the top of the page on either "Register Online" or "Donate". Make sure you click on the Shallowford link to join our team or to support your favorite walker. Or you can sign up or donate in person by contacting Gordon Watkins.

COMING THIS FALL
FALL SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS FOR CHILDREN
Children of all ages are invited to the children's Sunday school class every Sunday at 9:30am. We will be studying The Lord's Prayer, what it means, why we repeat it every Sunday in worship and what it means for our daily lives. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to assist with these classes, please contact Lynn Watkins.
SUNDAY SCHOOL BOOK GROUP CLASS
Come join us as we begin a new year! Our class will resume meeting in the library at 9:30am on Sunday, September 29th. We will be reading and discussing The Great Spiritual Migration by Brian McLaren. That Sunday we will be discussing the Preface and Introduction. Books may be purchase on Amazon for $14.83. For question or additional information contact Liz Jenkins.
McLaren, a leading voice in contemporary religion, argues that—notwithstanding the dire headlines about the demise of faith and drop in church attendance—Christian faith is not dying. Rather it is embarking on a once-in-an-era spiritual shift. For millions the journey has already begun. Drawing from his work as global activist, pastor and public theologian, he challenges readers to stop worrying, waiting, and indulging in nostalgia, and instead, to embrace the powerful new understandings that are reshaping the church.
COMMUNITY GARDEN UPDATE
Tomatoes have been prolific! We have harvested lots of beans, eggplants, peppers, and winter squash and okra is starting to come in. We put in new zephyr squash and cucumber plants so there should be more of these appearing on the table soon. Sweet potatoes vines are filling their raised bed. And the pollinator bed is full of black-eyed susans and cardinal flowers. Butterflies abound and we even had a hummingbird visit recently. Lots of activity in the Shallowford Community Garden this month!
The Garden Keeper board has many slots for volunteers to care for the garden for the rest of the season. Take a look and see if you can schedule a week to water, pick, and look for bugs. Stewart and Janet are ready and willing to assist you.
As always, thank you for visiting the Sharing the Bounty table to take home some fresh, organic, vegetables in exchange for your donation to Crisis Control!!
