TAIZÉ PRAYER FOR THE TIME OF LENT
From Darkness to Light
“Being signs of the presence of Christ and bearers of joy”
Brother Roger, the leader of the Taizé Community in France has written: “If Jesus had not come to earth, God might still seem far off, and even out of reach. Christ, the Risen Lord, makes God accessible to our lives. Will you always remember this luminous Gospel reality: ‘It was not us, it was God who loved first.” That is a light for your life”.
THE SUNG PRAYERS of Brother Roger’s community of TAIZÉ introduce a contemplative form of prayer, reaching into the depths of the soul, and at the same time remaining simple and accessible. The songs are sung at a gentle tempo, allowing time and space for prayer. The service also includes readings of scripture and a period of silence.
The beautiful sanctuary, of Shallowford Presbyterian Church, illuminated by the soft light of many candles, makes a sacred space for the sung prayers of the TAIZÉ Community that introduce a very simple and contemplative form of prayer, reaching into the depths of the soul, and at the same time remaining completely accessible.
The prayers are interspersed with scripture and a time of silence, allowing space for both prayer and meditation.
