Biography of Jeff Sockwell and family:
Jeff was raised in eastern Guilford county. He graduated from Appalachian State University where he met Janet. They were married, lived in Warrensville, NC and Jeff served four small Methodist churches for two years.
After daughter Sarah was born, Jeff and Janet moved to Charlotte. They were members of Plaza Presbyterian Church. Jeff served as an elder. Son Daniel was born in Charlotte. Jeff worked for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
In 1989, Jeff made the decision to enter seminary. The family made the move to Columbia Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. After Jeff graduated in 1992, he served the First Presbyterian Church in Charleston, Mississippi until being called to the West New Bern Presbyterian Church in April 1995.
New Bern has been home since 1995, where the children graduated from high school and attended colleges and embarked on their own lives. Sarah graduated from Campbell University with a Doctorate of Pharmacy. She works in long-term care pharmacy with MediPak in Clemmons. She is married to Royce Weisner and they live in downtown Greensboro. Daniel graduated from Warren Wilson College with a degree in chemistry. He has worked as an assistant camp director at Camp Albemarle (Newport, NC). He currently owns his own website design and photography business (Sail Away Web Design and Photography), lives on a sailboat and is about to leave on an extended voyage hopefully to places far and wide.
Janet works for Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute as a Regional Consultant. She provides professional development to preschool programs across the state with an emphasis on those serving children with disabilities.
Jeff and Janet are excited about new possibilities in their lives and are hopeful as they anticipate the journey to begin anew with Shallowford Presbyterian Church.
